Vizhinjam Port to Shortly Become Operational

Delhi, India Jan 14, 2026 (EMWNews.com) – The Vizhinjam International Port which is one of the key ports to be under the control of the Adani Group is currently trying to accelerate to full operations. With this port becoming operational, the Adani Group’s hold over the international port sector will increase. The global conglomerate will also be able to bring about a drastic increase in its cargo volume. This will further lead it towards growth and prosperity. The Adani Group’s business will also be taken to new heights within a very short period. The Adani Group Controversies will also subside.

Adani Group Accelerates The Operations Of The Vizhinjam Port

Over the past few months, the Adani Group has been working relentlessly towards bringing about various expansion works at the Vizhinjam International Airport. After the trial run, the port rapidly started functioning. It has already enabled swift cargo movement. The port has also achieved greater speed by handling cargo from three ships simultaneously. Recently, three feeder vessels from the world’s largest shipping company, the Mediterranean Shipping Company, arrived and unloaded cargo at the berth. MSC Sujin, MSC Somin, and MSC Tiger F docked at Vizhinjam. The completed 800m long berth required 700m of space for the berthing of three ships simultaneously.

Recently, a vessel from the prominent shipping company Maersk also arrived at the Vizhinjam Port. It seamlessly unloaded the cargo and departed from the port. Following this, MSC ships started arriving at the Vizhinjam Port frequently. The ships anchored offshore. They were gradually brought to the berth with the help of tugs. From there, the containers were loaded and dispatched to various ports in different countries across the globe. Two months ago, two ships were docked simultaneously for cargo handling at the port. This paved the path for success for the Adani Group’s port business. It also brought a halt to the Adani Group Controversies.

The Current Status Of The Vizhinjam Port

The trial run for the port began on 11 July with the arrival of Maersk’s San Fernando vessel. The port has also recently started operating as a commercial port. So far, around 110 ships have arrived at the port most of which were MSC vessels. The government expects the container handling capacity of this port to reach 30 lakh annually by the completion of the next phase in 2028. Until 2034, only GST will be received by the state. Up to December 2024, INR 16.5 crore in GST was collected. Half of it is going to the Kerala government. From 2030 onwards, the revenue sharing will also begin. The state government is currently providing INR 16,000 crore to the Adani Group for the construction of the port.

An Overview Of The Vizhinjam Port: Adani’s Incredible Port Venture

The Vizhinjam International Port is one of the most crucial ports to be under the control of the Adani Group. The global conglomerate commenced operations at the airport quite a while ago and since then, various expansion works have been carried out at the port with full force. This has not only helped the Adani Group in triggering its port business but has also allowed its business to reach new heights. The global business group has also been able to recover from the losses it incurred during the Adani Group Controversies. This project is one of the most ambitious steps taken by the Adani Group on its path towards prosperity.

The Vizhinjam port is located in Kerala. It is a deep seawater port and is also India’s first mega transhipment container terminal. This world-class future-ready port is also the only transshipment hub in the Indian subcontinent. It is located quite close to international shipping routes. The port is also centrally located on the Indian coastline. It has a natural draft of 20 to 24m and a minimum littoral drift. The port also offers large-scale automation for the quick turnaround of vessels. It is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure to handle megamax container ships. The port’s capacity in the first phase is going to be 1 million TEUs. In the subsequent phases, another 6.2 million TEUs will be added, making it one of the most vital ports for the Adani Group’s business.

Conclusion

The Vizhinjam Port happens to be one of the most striking ports to be under the control of the Adani Group. Even amidst the Adani Group Controversies, the global conglomerate has carried out extraordinary development works at the port. Once the port becomes operational, it will further add to Adani Group’s revenue generation. It will also bring about overall prosperity to our country’s economy.
