Studies Show Citrus Rinds Offer New Twist on Toxin Removal

SANTA ROSA, Calif.–(EMWNews)–EcoNugenics announced today that PectaSol, a natural supplement

containing modified citrus pectin (MCP) made from citrus peel, provides

a safe, natural antidote for lead toxicity in children. The study

reported that MCP (PectaSol, EcoNugenics, www.econugenics.com)

significantly decreased lead levels in children (ages 5 to 12) who

suffered from severe lead poisoning.

The clinical research was conducted at Children’s Hospital, Zhejiang

University School of Medicine, Republic of China. This research was a

collaborative effort with Northern California’s EcoNugenics, the US

Department of Agriculture (USDA)-Agricultural Research Service (ARS) and

the Chinese Medical Children’s Hospital

researchers. The study was published in the July/August 2008 issue of Alternative

Therapies in Health and Medicine, a peer-reviewed publication.

The major finding of the study shows that PectaSol is the first

oral chelator that has been proven to be safe and effective in reducing

heavy metal toxicity in children, without depleting the essential

minerals from the body. As a matter of fact, no adverse effects were

observed.

“Children are the most vulnerable to the long lasting health effects of

lead exposure,” said Isaac Eliaz, M.D., L.Ac., M.S., principal

investigator of the study. “They are in urgent need of a safe effective

heavy metal chelating agent to overcome the heavy metals and lead

exposure challenges they face. This study confirms that there is a safe

How does it work?

The soluble fiber molecules have been modified to selectively bind to

toxins by unique carbohydrates with a strong binding affinity forming a

stable complex which is then excreted by the body.

Increased public awareness has helped reduce the prevalence of lead

poisoning in the United States. But the Centers for Disease Control and

Prevention estimate that about 310,000 children below the age of five

have higher-than-desirable blood lead levels in this country, alone.

Lead poisoning among children is especially high in overly

industrialized areas and communities with older homes around the globe.

It is also very high in some developing countries.

The Evolution of Chelation Therapy

Historically, one method for treating lead poisoning has been

“chelation,” which involves using a compound that binds with the metal,

making it easier to remove from the body. However, the synthetic

compounds that have been used in the past, for this purpose, can have

severe side effects. Synthetic compounds can also bind to essential

minerals in the body, and can do more harm than good by redistributing

the toxins, making them a risk for use in children.

The result of this new study brings over a decade of research and

development to fruition at EcoNugenics. In an earlier study published in Phytotherapy

Research, July 2006, PectaSol was proven to be a safe, effective

alternative for healthy people. The study showed that it selectively

binds to heavy metals, rather than essential minerals, and can be

administered orally. This study also enlisted the help of USDA-ARS

pectin scientists to understand the molecular mechanism of PectaSol

binding to heavy metals.

conditions. A clinical case study report on five people, each, with a

different condition was conducted and published in Forschende

Komplementarmedizin (Research in Complementary Medicine)

December/January 2008. This is an international medical peer reviewed

journal. The study demonstrated that each health condition: prostate

cancer, depression, IBS, adrenal fatigue and allergies was significantly

improved and each improved condition correlated with a dramatic decrease

of lead and mercury in the person’s body. These above studies along with
