Next-Generation Digital Drop Box Technology to Debut at 13th Annual Technology in Education Conference
School Web Lockers Brings K-12 Technology to TechEd as Featured Exhibitor
SAN DIEGO, CA–( EMWNews – April 2, 2008) – TechEd 2008 – Booth #916 — The International
Technology in Education Conference & Technology Exposition (TechEd),
focusing on real-world and best-practice solutions for K-20 education, is
proud to announce School Web Lockers as a featured exhibitor during its
13th annual conference being held April 13 – 16 at Southern California’s
Ontario Convention Center. At the event, in booth 916, School Web Lockers
will debut its next-generation digital drop box technology, which
transforms the way K-12 schools and school districts share files, store
video and data, and collaborate online.
The new 2.0 release of the School Web Lockers collaboration and storage
platform, introduced in December 2007, features a blogging capability that
allows K-12 educators to create blogs in minutes, turning simple text into
a dynamic online forum for posting important news on projects, assignments
and tests. Blogs represent the latest trend in web-based collaboration,
with more than 100 million estimated to be in use today.
“As a K-12 collaboration tool, blogs can provide teachers with a powerful
new way to reach out to students and parents alike with essential classroom
news,” said Kelly Agrelius, manager of sales and marketing for School Web
Lockers. “We are proud to demonstrate this new capability, as well as the
other advanced features of our system, at TechEd.”
Offering unlimited data storage capacity for as little as $1 per student,
the School Web Lockers service consists of a secure, password-protected web
site that schools can leverage for file sharing and storage. Each student
and staff member receives their own digital locker that comes with a user
name and password. They can use the lockers to upload homework assignments
and projects, send and receive assignments, view graded work, and
communicate with teachers and classmates outside of the classroom. For
added collaboration, School Web Lockers also provides the teacher blogs as
well as message boards, which can be used for school-wide or even
district-wide online discussions.
Use of the system is easy: users can create work on one computer, and then
stash files in their web locker for completion later — either on the same
computer, or on another one at home or elsewhere.
“With many schools, file sharing between home and school is a significant
challenge due to security constraints,” said Agrelius. “The School Web
Lockers platform gives students and instructors access to information that
might not otherwise be available to them beyond the school day, which sets
the stage for improved success in the classroom.”
As the world’s largest hands-on conference of its kind, with more than 250
sessions presented by leading educators and technology authorities, TechEd
2008 will offer 200 exhibits. A TechEd Green Pavilion will feature green
technology solutions for the classroom, and a model “classroom of the now”
will also be on display.
Members of the media and the educational community are invited to visit the
School Web Lockers booth at TechEd. Complimentary exhibit hall passes with
registration discounts are available by contacting Annette Sobolak at
