Government organisations and private enterprises from the Lion City took out six of the 10 awards, with two winners coming from Malaysia, and one each from Hong Kong and Thailand.

Singapore (EMWNews) August 6, 2008 — Singapore organisations and enterprises have excelled in the sixth annual MIS Asia IT Excellence Awards, which are one of Asia’s most prestigious award competitions that recognise excellence in information technology management. The project-based awards were presented at a gala dinner in Singapore on Friday, August 1, 2008, where 36 finalists from banks, tertiary institutions, government departments and private enterprises gathered from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Indonesia, China and India.

Government organisations and private enterprises from the Lion City took out six of the 10 awards, with two winners coming from Malaysia, and one each from Hong Kong and Thailand (see details below).

The regional MIS Asia IT Excellence Awards (www.mis-asia.com/ITExcel08) are regarded as the only accolades that specifically recognise organisations for management excellence in using IT to drive business value and to attain business goals.

The Singapore winners were the Central Provident Fund Board, the Housing Development Board, the Lien Foundation, the Ministry of Education, the National University of Singapore and Unilever (Singapore).

The Malaysian winners were the CIMB and British American Tobacco Group Service Delivery.

The remaining winners were the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority and the Standard Chartered Bank (Thailand).

The winners were chosen by an expert panel of eight independent judges, including Chief Information Officers (CIOs), IT directors and analysts, in a process that lasted for several months. Judges took into account issues such as project execution, alignment with the business and measurable results.

MIS Asia magazine Editor, Ross O. Storey, said that the IT Excellence Awards for 2008 were an acknowledgement and recognition of the high quality of IT management practice and of the overall professionalism of enterprise IT across the Asia region. “The number of nominations that we received indicate that the IT Excellence Awards are a prestigious recognition of high quality IT management practice in the Asia region,” Storey said. “We had a record number of entries this year, ranging from business enabler projects to service oriented architecture and change management initiatives. The judges tell me the quality was high and their decisions were difficult.”
