Vancouver, Canada (EMWNews) August 18, 2008 — Almost all cyclists carry a mobile phone but only as a dead weight. VeloComputer (TM) transforms a Bluetooth mobile phone into a highly accurate cycling computer. VeloComputer (TM) consists of a 1-degree precision wireless sensor and a Java application for mobile devices.

The 1-degree precision wireless sensor is at least 360 times more accurate then a traditional cycling computer. Traditional cycling computers measure only a full 360 degree wheel rotation and calculate average speed over 3 to 5 rotations. This old method displays speed with a delay of up to 7 seconds from the moment of actual, spot speed. VeloComputer (TM) is capable of detecting as little as 1 degree of wheel rotation. This unique sensing technology, originally designed for an electronic compass, accurately measures spot speed and acceleration without a delay. Olympic cyclists win races by fraction of a second. Why would they rely on a 7-second delay with the old computers?

VeloTones (TM) is another distinct feature of VeloComputer (TM), allowing cyclists to determine their speed and acceleration level by customized sounds, without the need to look at the display. VeloTones (TM) let cyclists to keep their eyes on the road, yet know speed and acceleration using other senses, like hearing.

Additional features of VeloComputer (TM) include: detailed travel data recording, timer, trip distance, odometer, max, average and differential speed. Mobile phones provide larger displays with large color fonts, ergonomically designed for sharp view in bright light or dark conditions.

The innovative and highly accurate 1-degree sensing technology allows adding a power meter and cadence to future releases of VeloComputer (TM) without any additional sensors mounted on a bicycle. These and other features, like integration with GPS and LBS, heart rate, grade and altimeter will be available on selected mobile devices with our SDK partners.

VeloComputer (TM) will be available through selected mobile carriers in Europe and North America as well as from www.velocomputer.com
