King Soopers and City Market Stores Ask Customers to Check Refrigerators and Freezers for Recalled Beef

DENVER, Aug. 9 /EMWNews/ -- King Soopers and City Market stores are

asking customers to check for ground beef they may have recently purchased

that is part of a recall announced by Nebraska Beef. None of this ground

beef is currently available for sale in King Soopers or City Market stores.

King Soopers and City Market were informed today that some of their

ground beef may be contaminated with E. coli due to the recall by Nebraska

Beef. Consumer safety is a top priority at King Soopers and City Market.

The retailers are encouraging customers to check their refrigerators and

freezers for ground beef products with "sell by" dates of July 4 through

August 11 and labels that read: "Ground Beef - 70 to 80% Lean." Customers

should return them to stores for a full refund or replacement.

King Soopers and City Market stores have placed signs with specific

information in their meat departments to notify customers. King Soopers and

City Market operate 142 stores in Colorado and Wyoming states.

Consumers are reminded that proper handling, storage and cooking of

ground beef offer the best protection against food-borne illness. According

to the USDA, when ground beef is thoroughly cooked to an internal

temperature of at least 160 degrees, any harmful bacteria are destroyed and

the ground beef is safe to consume.
