Lifting Spirits, Touching Hearts — What a Difference Rebuilding Together San Diego Makes in a Day
SAN DIEGO, CA–( EMWNews – April 4, 2008) – Rebuilding Together San Diego (RTSD) will
renovate six homes and a community facility throughout San Diego County on
April 19 in celebration of its 13th annual Rebuilding Together Day.
Projects range from private homes — owned by low-income, elderly or
disabled residents who are unable to make necessary repairs on their own —
and a local community center.
Recipients of this year’s charitable efforts include a desperately needy
family whose children are at-risk and have only dreamed of having a decent
home environment; a Hispanic family referred to us by Children’s Hospital
who has a 15 year-old son who is battling cancer and needs a wheelchair
ramp as one of his legs was amputated; several homes of senior citizens —
one couple being blind and living on a canyon that requires brush
clearance; a disabled veteran who has spent the past 18 months in the
hospital and is unable to go home because he couldn’t afford the required
ADA modifications; and the North Park Recreation Center.
Over 1,200 kind-hearted volunteers will be out in force working with RTSD
on our county-wide renovation and community revitalization event. We have
garnered the support from numerous corporate partners, including LPL
Financial, our generous title sponsor, Clark Construction, Lowe’s, The San
Diego Association of Realtors and AARP. Our heart-felt gratitude goes to
the many, many in-kind donors who are also supporting our program, that
include: Anderson Plumbing, California Custom Woodworks, IBEW 569,
Treebeard Landscaping, UBOC Local 547, Rubios, S.D. Roofing Contractors
Assn., Grondin Construction. (complete list along with additional
information on RTSD is available at www.RebuildingTogetherSD.org)
A few of our recipients are also in need of new furniture, linens, towels,
bedding and various other household goods. We also need a new, firm ortho
bed set for the disabled vet, and 2,000 sq. feet of commercial grade
carpeting for a fire station renovation project we are planning the week
after on April 26th. Anyone who would like to donate these items to their
neighbors in need may contact RTSD at 619-231-7873 or email:
[email protected]. Financial contributions are also welcome.
RTSD is a local affiliate of the nation’s largest volunteer non-profit
organization that renovates homes and preserves affordable housing for
low-income homeowners and neighborhoods in our community (consider us the
local, mini version of ABC’s Extreme Home Makeover). Established in San
Diego in 1995, we have completed over 300 projects and vested over $6.5
million dollars of in-kind donations into our community through our
renovation efforts with the aid of our sponsors, in-kind material donors
and volunteers.
