NACOL Releases Second in Promising Practices in Online Learning Series: Using Online Learning for At-Risk Students and Credit Recovery

2008-07-15 11:41:00

WASHINGTON, July 15 /EMWNews/ -- The North American

Council for Online Learning (NACOL) is pleased to announce the release of

Using Online Learning for At-Risk Students and Credit Recovery, the second

report in the 2008 Promising Practices in Online Learning series,

researching and highlighting case studies and promising practices for K-12

online learning.

Susan Patrick, President of NACOL, states, "When students are

struggling, online learning opens new pathways to success. Online learning

is expanding access and opportunities for schools to offer engaging

alternative programs to build knowledge and skills - helping students

become ready for graduation and prepare them for new opportunities in

lifelong learning."

As online programs increasingly focus on at-risk students and credit

recovery, educators are finding new ways for reaching students and

understanding how to overcome specific issues. This promising practices

paper explores the issues and solutions for credit recovery through online

learning case studies.

According to author John Watson, of Evergreen Consulting Associates,

"As online learning moves past the early adopter phase, the growth of

online programs focused on at-risk students or credit recovery has

redefined how educational technology can be used to address the needs of

all students, from advanced students in search of Advanced Placement or

dual-credit courses, to at-risk students trying to find the right

instructional mix to fit their learning styles."

The NACOL Promising Practices in Online Learning Series is supported by

K12 Inc., Apex Learning, Florida Virtual School, and Connections Academy.
