Prepare Early for General Election, Urges Pennsylvania Secretary of the Commonwealth Cortes

Eligible Pennsylvanians Encouraged to Register Before Oct. 6 Deadline

HARRISBURG, Pa., Aug. 6 /EMWNews/ -- Calling preparation

the cornerstone of fair, accurate and secure elections, Secretary of the

Commonwealth Pedro A. Cortes today urged eligible Pennsylvanians not to

wait until the Oct. 6 deadline to register to vote in the General Election

on Tuesday, Nov. 4.

"Voter preparation begins with registration," Cortes said. "Registering

weeks in advance of the deadline will provide eligible Pennsylvanians ample

time to complete their voter registration applications, and to receive

confirmation from the counties."

Voter registration applicants who do not receive their voter signature

cards within 14 days of submitting an application should contact their

county board of elections.

Pennsylvanians are encouraged to visit the Department of State's

interactive voter education Web site at http://www.VotesPA.com. In addition

to printable voter registration applications, http://www.VotesPA.com

provides pertinent details about voting in the commonwealth, including a

polling place locator, voting systems demonstration videos, absentee ballot

information and a sign-up for election-related text-message reminders.
