OTTAWA, ONTARIO–(EMWNews – Aug. 20, 2008) – The Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety, issued the following statement on the deportation of Mr. Giuseppe Coluccio, an individual on Italy’s most wanted list.
“I would like to commend the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) for the speedy removal of Mr. Giuseppe Coluccio from Canada. This is a great example of Canada’s ability to coordinate efforts to combat transnational organized crime and expedite immigration enforcement proceedings.
As I have stated before, Canada is not a safe haven for individuals who have gained admission to Canada by concealing their involvement in serious and organized crime.”
Mr. Coluccio was arrested on August 7, 2008, by the Immigration Task Force, a joint forces operation comprised of law enforcement personnel from the RCMP, CBSA, Toronto Police Service and Ontario Provincial Police. Mr. Coluccio was issued a deportation order after being brought before immigration officials for an admissibility hearing on August 15, 2008.
Mr. Coluccio was escorted by CBSA officers on a private charter plane and handed over to Italian authorities in Italy on August 20, 2008.
