Americans Are Concerned about China, the Latest CNN/Opinion Research Corporation Poll Shows

PRINCETON, N.J.–(EMWNews)–Many Americans see China as a threat to the United States, Opinion

announced today. According to a new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation

poll, 70% of Americans see China as an economic threat to the United

States, while 51% consider China a military threat. Most Americans (82%)

also think Tibet should be an independent country rather than a part of

China. Each of these three questions carried a sampling error of +

4.5% pts. Despite their concerns, 63% of Americans think President Bush

should attend the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games which take

place this Friday (sampling error +– 3% pts).

The CNN/Opinion Research Corporation Poll was conducted by Opinion

Research Corporation on July 27-29, 2008, which interviewed 1,041 adult

Americans by telephone. The margin of sampling error for results based

on the total sample is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
