Mirage Releases Industry’s First Ruggedized NAC Appliance : New Appliance Withstands Harshest IT Environments

2008-07-16 02:00:00

AUSTIN, Texas (EMWNews) July 16, 2008 —

Mirage Networks, developer of patented,

full-cycle

Network Access Control (NAC) technology, today announced the release of

a ruggedized appliance that is designed for environments where standard

equipment cannot be deployed. The new appliance withstands temperature

extremes, vibration and airborne contaminants

conditions that occur in less than ideal environments where computing

equipment is essential.

To operate in our subway system, IT and telecom devices must be ruggedized. Product manufacturers must take specific steps to ensure performance under harsh conditions.

We have a unique challenge with environmental

factors at New York City Transit, said

Zhi-Wei Lin, project engineer with the Communications Engineering Group

at New York City Transit. To operate in our

subway system, IT and telecom devices must be ruggedized. Product

manufacturers must take specific steps to ensure performance under harsh

conditions.

Independently tested to comply with select MIL-STD-810F

standards, the ruggedized NAC appliance was engineered for industrial

environments in gas and energy, transportation, military and

manufacturing organizations. But customers across all vertical markets

have requirements for devices that are durable enough to withstand

severe conditions.

Many organizations do not have dedicated facilities for IT equipment and

deploy them into poorly ventilated spare closets or alongside heavy

industrial machinery. And while data centers and IT closets are often

cool and clean environments, in many cases they do not meet

specifications for HVAC and air purity. Offshore oil rigs, power

generation plants, manufacturing facilities and mass transit systems are

only a few examples of harsh environments where organizations have a

tremendous challenges deploying computing equipment.

Our customers have countless situations where

they cant deploy equipment in a sealed white

room, said David

Thomas, vice president of products for Mirage Networks. We

designed this product for the real world where its

gritty, hot, and often very shaky. By providing a ruggedized appliance

that is rock solid, we can help our customers keep their network

infrastructures secure, and their businesses online.

Mirages NAC solution enables maximum network

performance by controlling network access, isolating noncompliant and

threatening endpoints, and providing self-remediation capabilities.

Mirages network-based solution requires no

agent software, deploys virtually

inline, and works in any network environment.

Mirage solutions are made available through Authorized ChannelFirst

Partners and can also be delivered as a managed service.
