Rorke Data Unveils Newest Addition to Its Value-Based, Performance-Driven Galaxy Storage Line

New Galaxy® 3G Storage Series Offers High Performance, Low Cost per Gigabyte

EDEN PRAIRIE, MN–(EMWNews – July 29, 2008) – Rorke Data, Inc., a data storage-centric,

end-to-end solutions provider that is a wholly owned subsidiary of Bell

Microproducts (PINKSHEETS: BELM), today announced the general availability

of its new Galaxy® 3G product line. With an MSRP of less than one dollar

per gigabyte of storage, the Galaxy 3G features high performance capability

of over 1,000 MB per second, making it the highest performing, lowest cost

per gigabyte member of the Galaxy family.

As storage applications become more decentralized and the amount of data

and images that need to be stored continues to grow, the market is ripe for

high capacity, value-based storage solutions. Joe Swanson, Rorke Data’s

president, explained, “There are a number of factors driving the rapid

increase in data storage requirements, all of which have created a new

mid-market storage landscape. In the mid-market, storage solutions must

be flexible and value-based while delivering high performance. In other

words, they must be practical storage solutions that are not burdened with

complex and costly storage architectures.”

Advanced embedded diagnostic tools provide an easy to use yet highly

sophisticated diagnostic capability for the entire Galaxy 3G storage

system, including remote ‘call home’ features. According to Swanson, “Ease

of use and serviceability have been hallmarks of the entire Galaxy product

line and the 3G provides a new set of support features that continue and

build upon that tradition.”

“The new Galaxy 3G is the performance and price leading product within our

10-year-old Galaxy brand of value-based storage,” added Swanson. “The

growing volume of data and images that need to be stored has multiplied

exponentially, and the management and retention of this data has reached

critical mass. Companies in the mid-market require efficient and reliable

solutions for managing content. We are pleased to provide our customers

with a cost-effective, high-performance storage solution to meet the ever

increasing needs of the mid tier storage marketplace.”

The Galaxy 3G leverages both SAS and SATA components and the high-capacity

Seagate Barracuda® 1TB ES.2 series of hard drives, making it ideally

suited as a data storage system to support a range of HD related

applications, as well as a range of archival and management platforms.

Additionally, the Galaxy 3G is the first Galaxy product to be fully

compatible with the Seagate® Barracuda ES.2 family of low power drives.

Full support for fibre channel, serial attached SCSI, iSCSI and SCSI host

interfaces are possible due to the Galaxy 3G’s backplane flexibility.

The choice of SATA and SAS drive support with the Barracuda ES.2 hard

drives provides the ultimate integration flexibility for the Galaxy 3G

family. SAS is especially optimized for business-critical and nearline

enterprise storage environments that demand native enterprise host

compatibility with robust data integrity. SAS also offers advantages

including dual-port, full duplex capability and a host of enterprise class

features for increased system-level performance and reliability.

“Seagate Barracuda ES.2 drives are well-suited for use within Rorke Data’s

Galaxy 3G product family because they deliver the high capacity storage

required, while consuming less power with no performance sacrifices,” said

Sherman Black, senior vice president and general manager, Seagate

Enterprise Compute business. “Rorke’s latest Galaxy system is an ideal

solution for delivering scalable capacity and redundancy for growing

tier-two environments while providing value-based price points to the

market.”

The Galaxy 3G is compatible across all platforms, supports all RAID

configurations (including RAID 6) and delivers individual system capacities

of 80TB.
